2222 Members Lend Support to Teamster's Picket Line
About 45 members of IBEW Local 2222 who work as line techs and splice techs were planning to hold an informational picket in front of Verizon's two garages in Woburn, MA on Thursday, July 21. The planned picket lines were part of a company-wide membership mobilization to show unity for a good contract to replace the one that expires on August 6. When the Verizon workers heard that Teamsters Local 25 members were on strike at Sheila Marie Imports in nearby North Reading, they decided to move their picket line to assist the workers there. "Our fight for justice at Verizon isn't isolated," said John Colleran, a steward at the Wildwood Street garage and member of the Local 2222 executive board. "Greedy employers are attacking workers' wages and working conditions all across the country. When workers stand together, all of us will start winning." |
