Coast to Coast Solidarity
Setting standards for 2011...and beyond?More than 6,000 California Verizon workers are beginning negotiations with management for a new contractContract negotiations for Verizon workers in California begin on February 1. They are part of approximately 30,000 other Verizon employees who are covered by separate union agreements. In 2008, these members supported our campaign to win a good contract. Now it's our turn to show them the same solidarity. Their contract expires on March 13. Across the country Verizon has embarked on an aggressive strategy to divide its employees by creating non-union subsidiaries for its most profitable business segments, while confining union members to an ever shrinking -- and less profitable -- "core" company. Verizon is also selling off its older copper line businesses, increasing America's already serious "digital divide." In less than a year-and-a-half, our union leaders will be back at the table with management to negotiate a contract for about 85,000 Verizon workers on the East Coast (Maine to Virginia). What our co-workers in California achieve will impact our future health care and pension benefits, job security and organizing rights. Show them your support!
If you notice any orders or other work transferred to New England from California, notify your union immediately. In Unity There Is Strength! One Verizon -- All Union |
