Families First Benefit a Huge Success

2008 Families First Benefit

The Families First Benefit Fund was held this past Sunday at IBEW Local 103.  To say it was a huge success would be an understatement!

Over 350 members and their families came and enjoyed a day filled with raffles, prizes, games and a live and silent auction. The auction alone raised more than we thought would be possible.

Danny Duggan and his family were present to enjoy the days festivities and were so grateful for the outpouring by our membership on their behalf, especially by the Weymouth Garage.

Our members were also joined by members of Kristine Kowalski's family, including her mom, sisters, and her 3 boys. The boys were so grateful for the gifts and meeting all of the Friends of Kristine Kowalski from various locations including Lowell and Franklin Street.

The Family of Ralph Cappuccio, including his wife Laurie and their children, had a great time.  Laurie was overwhelmed at the kindness and comforted by the solidarity and brotherhood of which Ralph always spoke about so highly.  The Walkers of Franklin Street went above and beyond for their co-worker and brother and produced such great additions to the auction and sold tickets all over Boston!  Along with the South Shore Enterprise Group who actually donated a Laptop to raffle off at the event!

The Family of Pablo Cruz were all there in abundance! Having a great time were Pablo's mom Myrna and son Emilio.  Pablo was undergoing a stem cell transplant on Sunday but stopped by on Friday to thank the members of the Committee.  The Hyde Park Garage should be applauded for their efforts on behalf of their good friend Pablo.  What a special group of friends we are lucky to have the privilege of working with in the Hyde Park Garage.

Last but not least, was the huge gathering of Shawn Smith's family including his two gorgeous daughters.  Shawn is in Philadelphia waiting for a double lung transplant so was unable to make it, but our prayers go out to him and Wendy. We were joined by his sisters, mother in law and father in law who helped on the Committee as well.  The 12th Floor of Franklin Street came out in full force to put together a Newport Getaway package which brought in over $1600 in the Live Auction!

All of our stewards, members and friends sold raffle tickets, admission tickets and gathered auction items, and the outcome showed how much of a unified effort was put forward.  Thank you to everyone who helped or supported this great, great cause.  This Local really showed its true colors for this event. We ALL contributed to make a difference in the lives of our members and the 11 children of our members who needed our help.  May we always remember:

In Unity there is Strength,

The Strength to help one another.
