ARE YOU READY?
There are less than 100 days left until our contract expires in August 2008. There are a myriad of issues to deal with, including the sale of the northern states, health care, job security, movement of work, & VZ Business, just to name a few. Working together we can maintain all we have earned, and attain all we deserve.
You have all seen the recent “Labor Alerts” sent out by Verizon with misleading information that states CWA and some IBEW Locals have agreed to early negotiations and that the IBEW New England Locals are the only groups not participating. This group of so called experts would love nothing better than to have our members believe that’s the whole story. But; as we have talked about in our Stewards Army Workshops our membership is not going to fall for that corporate spin.
We have always had the utmost faith in and support for our knowledgeable negotiating team and the process in which they have continuously bargained on our behalf. We will support them now and even more as we move closer to the Augusts 2008 deadline.
What the company failed to state in their propaganda like email was; Verizon would dictate the issues that would be discussed. Most likely the issues that concern our members and their families would never even be brought to the table. Verizon would like IBEW Local 2222 to join early bargaining but to do that we would also be agreeing to change the format in which we currently bargain. As the old saying goes….if it’s not broke don’t fix it. This “early negotiation” fishing expedition is for fact finding purposes only and is a tactic that has been tried before by this group.
Make no mistake about it - Even if Local 2222 is not physically in that room we are in lockstep with The CWA and New York/New Jersey IBEW Locals. They are our eyes and ears at that table and nothing will be agreed upon without the input of Local 2222 and our leadership team.
