WHAT A WEEKEND IT WAS

WHAT A WEEKEND!  Local 2222 designated the weekend of March 3rd & 4th, 2007 as Labor Weekend.  We began on Saturday March 3rd with two bus loads of members and countless car loads more heading north to Monument Square in Portland, ME for a "STOP THE SALE OF THE NORTHERN STATES" rally. We joined over a thousand of our Brothers and Sisters from IBEW locals throughout New England, as well as CWA and other organized labor groups to let Verizon & FairPoint know we will not sit idly while they sell off this company that we built.  The message was loud and clear, the solidarity evident.  Together we will be successful!

C.O.P.E. BREAKFAST

Congratulations and thanks to PJ Foley and the entire COPE Committee for another successful COPE Breakfast.  An overflow crowd of members, their families, and of course our political friends gathered at Florian Hall.  The VZB techs had their majority of signed cards verified by Senator Kerry, Congressman Tierney, Congressman Lynch, Congressman Delahunt, and Lt. Governor Murray.  To view photos and videos of both events please visit our website www.ibew2222.org and click on the "Videos" link.

VZB ORGANIZING AD HAS THEM SCRAMBLING
Recently a full page ad was placed in the Boston Globe and New York Times by the IBEW & CWA, urging Verizon to respect the wishes of the VZB techs and recognize  their right to a Union Voice and a Fair Contract.   Wow, did we get their attention!  The company responded by sending an email from Human Resources to Verizon Business Employees.

SOLIDARITY NOW...2008 WILL BE TOO LATE!!!

FYI

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT VERIZON HAS BEEFED UP THEIR SECURITY PRESENCE AT LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT OUR LOCAL. THEY ARE OUT AND ABOUT...BE SMART.

DO NOT TALK TO SECURITY WITHOUT A BUSINESS AGENT. HANG TOUGH!

BE SMART. IF YOU USE A VERIZON COMPUTER TO ACCESS THE INTERNET, EVERY SITE YOU GO TO IS SAVED IN MEMORY AND CAN BE ACCESSED BY SECURITY. LIFE IS HARD, BUT IT'S HARDER IF YOU'RE STUPID. THE JOB YOU SAVE WILL BE YOUR OWN.

LABOR QUOTE

"Solidarity is not a matter of sentiment but a fact, cold and impassive as the granite foundations of a skyscraper. If the basic elements, identity of interest, clarity of vision, honesty of intent, and oneness of purpose, or any of these is lacking, all sentimental pleas for solidarity, and all other efforts to achieve it will be barren of results."
