IBEW Local 2321 Business Manager Ed Starr said, "Verizon continues to unfairly discipline people in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Currently there are hundreds of union members suspended or fired. Every IBEW and CWA member needs to be aware of this as we fight for our jobs and for a new contract. Remember the wages and benefits that we all enjoy are the result of more senior people striking this company to win what we have. The solidarity of every member needs to be our priority!"
About 100 people braved the extreme cold early on Feb. 22 to attend a rally in front of Verizon's garage in Andover, MA. The rally was attended by members from the Lawrence and Chelmsford garages, the Lowell towers, the IBEW and CWA 1400 work center in Andover, IBEW Local 2222, as well as representatives from the IBEW Second District, Massachusetts Jobs with Justice, the Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health, the United Way, the Merrimack Valley Labor Council and the T6 Council Mobilizing team.
State Rep. Barry Finegold and IBEW Local 2222 Business Manager and T6 Chairman Myles Calvey spoke at the rally. The Painters and Allied Trades District Council 35 provided the huge rat "Tony."
