Verizon Members – New England Work & Family Committee

The New England Work and Family is a joint committee comprised of Union and Company representatives and supported by funds obtained through contract negotiations with each Collective Bargaining Agreement. The New England Work and Family Committee is committed to providing resources to our members to help you live a healthy, fulfilling life. Some of the current programs and promotions include:

Greater Goods Blood Pressure Monitor – Tracking and controlling your blood pressure is an essential part of staying healthy. The Greater Goods Blood Pressure Monitor measures systolic and diastolic blood pressure as well as pulse with a single button. An irregular heartbeat sensor alerts you to any issues. The large, inverted, backlit LCD display with oversized numbers makes reading measurements the easiest and the adjustable cuff comfortably fits almost all arm sizes. It’s compatible with two users, storing up to 60 measurements for each. The kit includes a durable carrying case, 4 AAA batteries and a wall plug.

Summer Camp Reimbursement – The IBEW/Verizon New England Work & Family Committee summer camp reimbursement program runs June 18th and August 26th, 2023. The IBEW/Verizon NE Work and Family summer camp program provides funding to enrich members’ school-aged children’s summer experiences.

If your application is accepted, you may be reimbursed for up to $500.00 per your dependent’s summer camp expenses. Reimbursement covers the costs for overnight summer camps and summer day camp programs. This enables your dependents to enjoy the outdoors, or participate in an athletic camp during the summer.  Please note: All Summer Camp reimbursements received from this program are taxable.

Health & Wellness Reimbursement – The New England Work and Family Committee recognize that your health is important.  Regular exercise and weight management have been shown to improve fitness, reduce stress, and fight obesity, however, memberships can be expensive to purchase.  The New England Work & Family Committee wants to help you by reimbursing eligible employees for gym memberships or weight management, exercise equipment, and mindfulness and stress management programs such as massage, and acupuncture, up to $500.00 from January-June 2023.  Please note: All Health and Wellness reimbursements received from this program are taxable.  All applications must be postmarked by June 30, 2023.

For applications or more information on these and other programs please visit www.NewEnglandWorkAndFamily.com

2222 Brother Needs Our Help

Our Organizing Drive at the State House Moves Forward With Filing of Legislation

IBEW 2222 has been working to organize the legislative staff at the Massachusetts State House. Presently, legislative staff are not included in the list of public employees permitted to unionize under the Massachusetts Labor Relations Act, though employees in the executive and judicial branches are.

The staff reached out to us in 2019 to discuss the possibility of forming a union. We continued working with them throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and shortly after the State House reopened last year, we reached a strong majority of Senate staff who signed cards wishing to join the MA State House Employee Union @BeaconHillUnion, represented by IBEW 2222. We then began collecting cards from House staff, and continue to work toward a majority in that chamber.

Yesterday, Senator John Keenan @SenJohnFKeenan and Representative Patrick Kearney @RepKearney filed bills to extend collective bargaining rights to MA legislative staff. This marks a critical step in our organizing effort. The legislation, An Act to collective bargaining rights for legislative employees, simply provides the legislative staff the same right as every other worker in the Commonwealth, the right to decide for themselves whether or not they would like to organize.
