On June 8th, Quinn Dyson, the daughter of IBEW 2222 member Jim Dyson, suffered a life-altering injury, fracturing a bone in her neck that resulted in emergency surgery and a stay in the ICU at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. A Go Fund Me Page has been set up to assist the family. While we will continue to pray for her recovery, we also know the road ahead is not going to be an easy one. Our hope at this time is to allow Jim, Michelle, Chris, Robert and Paul to focus on Quinn’s recovery. This fund will support whatever is not covered by health insurance, any recommended procedures or devices, including necessary additions or changes to their home to better support Quinn.

IBEW International President Lonnie R. Stephenson issued the following statement in reaction to the death of George Floyd:
“The men and women of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers stand with the millions of Americans demanding a full investigation into the death of George Floyd, an African-American pinned down by a white Minneapolis police officer who kneeled on Floyd’s neck as Floyd pleaded, ‘I can’t breathe.’
“The cause of labor has always been the cause of human solidarity, human dignity and justice and equality for all, so the IBEW cannot afford to stay silent as our African-American brothers and sisters suffer in fear of violence at the hands of either the state or by private citizens like we saw with the case of Ahmaud Arbery.
“We believe that we as a country are better than what we saw happen in Minneapolis. And we believe that the majority of our police officers, who are dedicated public servants protecting their communities every day, are better than what we saw there as well.
“But it’s all too clear that the plague of racism which has beset this nation since its birth remains to be overcome.
“This is the time for all those who love America and care deeply about its values to speak out in the name of justice and against systemic racism. More than ever, every American, regardless of race, gender, faith, sexual orientation, or gender identification, must come together to heal the wounds of division and hate.
“The labor movement has long stood shoulder to shoulder with those fighting for civil rights and a society free from the blight of racism and discrimination.
“And the IBEW is proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with those peacefully calling for justice for George Floyd and all victims of racism.”
No job is so important and no service so urgent that we cannot take the time to perform our work safely.
It has come to the Union’s attention that some managers are encouraging technicians to work with customers at the customer’s home or business location to pull cable/wire. Absolutely unequivocally, no technician should be working with a customer.
We don’t have workers-compensation for customers, nor are you covered if the customer is injured.
If any manager is encouraging you to work with a customer, please contact your steward or call the Union office at 617-929-6000 to stop this practice.
Also, we still have members using vehicles that have not been properly cleaned. If you swap from your regular vehicle to another vehicle please make sure someone is aware. Notify your steward or call the Union office. If members are moving from vehicle to vehicle they should be in a safe condition.
Verizon has also announced its intention to return soon to performing work in customer premises. While we understand the company has to transition back towards “normal business”, if you are assigned a job where you feel unsafe, notify your manager immediately, and call your steward or the Union office if you have any problems.

Effective Saturday, May 16, 2020, Bright Horizons will no longer be the administrator for the Emergency Backup Care Reimbursement program. This program provides reimbursement of up to $15 per hour, $100 per day, for backup care for dependent children, elder family members, adults with special needs, or other household members when there is a temporary breakdown in normal care arrangements, to allow employees to report to work.
