Verizon Bargaining Update

Our current collective bargaining agreements with Verizon expire on August 1, 2026. Verizon, IBEW, and CWA have agreed to meet beginning in January 2026, for a limited period to explore the possibility of a contract extension. IBEW and CWA remain focused on our members’ priorities and will provide an update on the outcome of these discussions.

Holiday Drive for Our Adopted Charities

Housing Families is working to end family homelessness by providing safe, temporary shelter and quality affordable housing, so families can remain together. 

Bread of Life is a faith-based ministry with a mission to feed the body and to nurture the soul, striving to feed the hungry, the homeless, the needy, and the isolated.

IBEW Local 2222 supports these charities throughout the year, and especially during the holiday season. Once again this year, we are asking for gift cards or cash donations, which we will use to purchase gift cards.

All donations are due by Friday, December 19th.

The Ed Fitzpatrick Memorial Scholarships – Through the MA AFL-CIO

The Massachusetts AFL-CIO Scholarship and Labor Education Program awards financial resources to high school students pursuing college/university studies. ­IBEW Local 2222 is proud to offer the Ed Fitzpatrick Memorial Scholarships, two $1,500 scholarships, available to the children or grandchildren of current 2222 members.

In order to be eligible for a scholarship, the student must be a senior in high school and take the Labor History Exam. The Massachusetts AFL-CIO publishes a Labor History Study Guide, which covers a broad range of the history of working people organizing for justice in the United States.

Key Dates for 2025-2026

  • December 19, 2025: Last day to register. All applications must be received by 5 p.m. to be eligible to take the scholarship exam. 
  • February 2, 2026-February 6, 2026: The scholarship exam is administered at high schools across Massachusetts. Schools will administer the exam online within the timeframe provided. Students must check with their exam proctor for testing time and location.

VZ Bargaining Update

Talks with VZ have ended without an agreement. The current contract expires in August 2026. Plan accordingly!

 

In late May, IBEW, CWA, and Verizon began negotiations to determine whether an agreement could be reached to extend the current collective bargaining agreements. By late June, significant differences remained between the parties’ proposals, and the Unions informed the Company of our intention to conclude negotiations. At the Company’s request, a high-level meeting was held, during which the Unions agreed to continue discussions, with the understanding that the Company was prepared to more fully address the Unions’ concerns. Despite these continued efforts, the Company has not adequately responded to the needs and priorities of our members. Instead, the Company has chosen to end the bargaining process.
