Statement from the IBEW 2222 COPE Committee

The IBEW 2222 Committee On Political Education (C.O.P.E.) discussed requests for endorsement and financial support for candidates seeking office. The committee has unanimously agreed to continue our policy of endorsing only those officials and candidates who actively support our organization and our efforts.

We are focusing our endorsements on Senate and Legislative candidates who have signed on to our Bills to organize State House Legislative staffers. Moreover, it is important for candidates to express their support for our bill aiming to extend unemployment benefits to striking workers. These bills are necessary not only for the long-term survival of our local but also for the well-being of our members and bargaining team in the event of a strike.

We believe that the success of these legislative efforts is crucial for our Union, and we invite you to join us in our efforts. Your support can make a significant impact on the success of our bills.

If you have not done so already, please consider joining COPE and contributing to these efforts. Your involvement will play a crucial role in advancing our cause and ensuring that we have elected officials who genuinely support the needs and concerns of our Members and their families.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact COPE at IBEW2222cope@gmail.com

Stand With BU Graduate Workers Union

Rally Monday, March 25th – 12 PM / Picket Lines M-F 10 AM – 4 PM

The graduate workers of Boston University need OUR help to support their more vulnerable members, and win a fair contract!

The Boston University Graduate Workers Union is made up of 3,500 graduate workers who teach, grade, advise students, conduct research, plan courses and programs, serve on committees, and fulfill administrative roles, among others. They are fighting to secure a good contract for thousands of hardworking grads across the two campuses of Boston University.

Bargaining in June 2023.  The administration has given little confidence that they are negotiating in good faith, and has shown that they would rather delay. BUGWU negotiators have met with University administrators on 14 occasions and proposed 31 articles, covering items for inclusion in a contract. BU Administration has provided counter-proposals to just 9, all of which substantively reiterate current University policy and thereby fail to respond to BUGWU proposals. Significantly, 20 BUGWU articles remain unaddressed.

Please join the Rally on Monday, March 25th at Noon – Marsh Plaza (735 Commonwealth Ave, Boston).

Lead Exposure Testing

Pam Cox, Executive Director, Environment, Health, and Safety for VZ, emailed employees last year with information related to blood testing to detect the presence of lead. Very few members have been tested, but of those who have, some have been found to have elevated lead levels. For your safety, if you have worked around lead, get tested.

To set up a test, please CLICK HERE, or see your supervisor. Each employee will have up to 4 hours of paid time to complete the test.

Please see your steward or call the Union Office with any questions. 617-929-6000

With Deep Regret We Announce The Death of Edward Hastings

Eddie’s family has scheduled a Memorial Mass

on Saturday, February 24th at 4 PM

St. Anne Church – 90 W Milton St, Readville

Eddie Hastings took a job in the mailroom of New England Telephone following high school, thus beginning a career of 40-plus years. Eddie became an SST, Steward, and Chief Steward. In 1997 he accepted the position of Business Agent at Local 2222, then added the role of President in 2015, following the retirement of his dear friend, Ed Fitzpatrick. Eddie earned the respect of the members he represented so well for so long, as well as the respect of management. He had that rare ability to bring people together during a conflict, find common ground, and reach a fair resolution. Eddie worked tirelessly for the membership of Local 2222 until his retirement a few weeks ago, and we are a stronger, better local because of him.

Eddie was a loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. A man of strong faith, he lived out his call to love his neighbors in so many ways, including volunteering at The Holy Cross Retreat House, My Brother’s Keeper, and so many other charities. As a Friend of Bill, he lived to help others in their recovery, including as the Director of IBEW Local 2222’s Membership Assitance Program.

Please keep Eddie, his family, and his many friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for the outpouring of support for the Hastings Family

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eddie’s memory to:
